Toronto International Film Festival (Sept. 6-16, 2012)

The Toronto International Film Festival is the leading public film festival in the world, screening more than 300 films from 60+ countries every September. It began in 1976 as a collection of films from other festivals - a "festival of festivals" - and has become one of the most successful cinematic events in the world. Throughout its growth in both size and influence, the Toronto Film Festival has remained committed to its principal objectives: to lead the world in cultural and creative discovery through the moving image and to place Canadian achievements in an international context.

What To Watch

Argo (Festival - Gala)

That's right, people. Before it hits theatres in October, you can see Ben Affleck's latest movie, Argo, about the real-life rescue of Americans stranded in Tehran after the 1979 invasion of the American Embassy. Affleck's Tony Mendez executes the plan with understated bravado ("I need you to help me make a fake movie") and he does it all while kind of looking like Jesus. Save me.

Top 10 Suggestions

For the discriminating viewer

1. The Place Beyond the Pines (Festival - Special Presentation) Watch this one for the cast: Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, and Eva Mendes. (Mostly Bradley Cooper - if you haven't seen his interview on The Actor's Studio, get it done.) Gosling plays a motorcycle stunt rider whose moonlighting as a bank robber brings him into conflict with an ambitious young cop. more

Tickets

How To Join the Party

Buy pre-set packages or create your own experience. I suggest the Back Half Pack, where you can pick 5-ticket, 10-ticket, or 20-ticket packs. I'm going for the 5-ticket because it's affordable at $50, and you can pick which movies you want to see (as long as they're not sold out first!).
